Operating fireplace

The Smidson Vigo is a lightweight ambience fireplace, designed to bring cozy warmth and charm to the cabin. It is not a heating appliance, even if the temperature outside drops to –35 °C. The cabin's electric floor heating and air-source heat pump ensure a comfortable indoor temperature.

The fireplace becomes hot during use, so please make sure that children do not touch it. Children are not allowed to operate or heat the fireplace. Always supervise the fireplace while it is burning, and use protective glove when handling it. Here are instructions how to operate it.

Vallox Ventilation Panel

The Vallox ventilation panel activates when you touch the display. Select the "Mukautettu" mode (custom) — this is the fireplace function, which helps the fire ignite and burn properly. The function runs automatically for one hour

Chimney and Air Supply

Before lighting the fire, make sure the chimney flue is open by pulling the handle outward. Also, open the air intake by pulling the handle on the right side at the bottom of the fireplace.

Lighting the Fire

Place a few logs carefully on the grate, either horizontally or vertically. Put a fire starter (cube) on the grate in the middle of the logs, and light it.

Close the fireplace door securely. The fire usually catches within a few minutes. Do not open the door except when adding more wood.
Always use protective glove. The fireplace is not suitable for cooking or roasting food.

 The Heart of the Fire

A small amount of wood is enough to create a beautiful, heart‑warming glow in the fireplace. The fireplace becomes noticeably hot and radiates gentle warmth into the room.

Adding More Wood

Before adding more wood, open the fireplace door slightly for about 15 seconds

Add the next logs when the flames have faded and only a gentle glow remains above the embers. You may add 2–3 regular logs (about 2 kg) per hour. Close the door immediately after adding wood and enjoy the glow of the fire. When the ashes are completely cold, empty them from the ash box into the ash container located in the front yard.

⚠️ Warnings

The fireplace becomes very hot when in use — please ensure that children do not touch it. Use a protective glove when adjusting the fireplace's air controls.

Do not fill the firebox completely, as this may cause overheating. Do not burn waste or trash in the fireplace. Do not close the chimney damper after use.

Firewood is stored outside in the shed (available from autumn 2026). The OPAL carbon monoxide detector will sound an alarm if carbon monoxide is produced while using the fireplace.
